- Fear of loss of life
- Fear of loss of livelihood
- Fear of loss of reputation
- Fear of unusual states of mind
- Fear of speaking in front on an assembly (writer’s block, stage fright, speaking up)
When it comes to creating and the arts, Stephen Nachmanovitch, author of the book Free Play, mentions that there other fears that hold us back from being our best at what we do:
- Fear of being perceived as arrogant or out of the ordinary
- Fear of success (can be as potent as fear of failure)
- Fear of ghosts. Not real ghosts (although I’m sure that can have a strong affect on a person lol) but ghosts of people we worry about disappointing, such as parents or teachers, or people who are professional or critically acclaimed in the particular field/art we participate in or have chosen.
- Fear of foolishness (which applies to Fear of reputation).
- Fear of actually being a fool (Fear of unusual states of mind)
- Fear of making mistakes
Other defenses against creativity (and progression):
- Fear of Failure
- Fear of Frustration
- Fear of Judgement
