    A New Focus

I went in for my second day of acting class today. We always play these really cool warmup games. Today the teacher had a magic scarf, and whatever he did, everything he did with his hands and face, we had to copy. He handed it to someone else and the same rules applied.

And then he turned on Michael Jackson from his 90’s boombox ha.

First it was “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” and then it was “Workin Day and Night”, and it turned into a serious dance off. One person would be running around the room doing all these hilarious dance moves, and we’d all imitate him or her. People were grabbing their crotches, and swaying, and one white boy hit the dougie.

    I couldn’t stop laughing.

It’s been a great experience so far. I’ve told people that even though it’s a “Drama Workshop”, where we study acting, I am able to be so much of myself. Not to say that everyday, I’m not, but there’s an honest impulse that I get to act on when I’m in that room. It’s never right or wrong. It just is.

My teacher says acting is a safe place. That theatre is about transformation and storytelling.

It’s been awesome so far. I can’t believe I only have 4 classes to go.
